At Clifton Green, reading and writing are closely connected and sit at the heart of our curriculum. Through a rich, inclusive and carefully sequenced approach, we ensure that all children develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to communicate effectively across all areas of learning.
Writing is embedded across the curriculum, giving children regular opportunities to write for real purposes in subjects such as history, geography and science. This ensures that writing is meaningful, connected and purposeful.
Our writing approach follows a consistent sequence
Through high-quality model texts, rich discussion and purposeful practice, children develop a secure understanding of audience, purpose and genre.
Through regular feedback, editing and opportunities to publish and perform, we foster pride, resilience and a strong sense of authorship in every child.
We believe that transcription and composition develop together. Spelling, handwriting and sentence construction are taught and practiced alongside the development of ideas, so that pupils can write with increasing fluency, accuracy and control.
Grammar is taught within the context of writing and children learn how grammatical choices shape meaning and are supported to apply this knowledge directly in their own writing.

Our school uses the Letter-join handwriting scheme and our pupils can log in to the letter-join website at home on ipads, tablets and computers. There you will find the same easy to use handwriting resources that we use at school.
