High Quality Teaching and the Holistic Inclusive Teaching Model

Our aspiration is that all pupils receive high-quality inclusive teaching. Through our Holistic Inclusive Teaching Model, every child is included in whole-class teaching, using adaptive strategies to meet individual need. Sometimes,

The School’s Graduated Response Framework

We use the school’s graduated response framework as a tool to identify and support children and young people with special education needs and/or disabilities (SEND). At every stage, we engage our parent/carers, pupils and teachers.

English As An Additional Language

We also have a wide range of families from overseas hailing from 20 countries and speaking 25 languages. All families who arrive in the city and at the school are supported through this transition and we have a dedicated member of staff to support the early stages of learning English.

How Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) are identified.

We know a child may need extra support if:

  • Concerns raised by the parent/carer: If you think your child may have Special Educational Needs,  please approach your class teacher and discuss this with them. Our teachers will observe your child closely, assess what may be causing difficulty and arrange for another meeting with you to decide what to do next.
  • Concerns raised by the teacher / school: If a teacher feels that are some concerns, they will contact you to arrange a discussion to clarify what the concern is about. It may be at this time, the SENCO is invited as part of the discussion to identify potential need. If appropriate, the child may be placed on the SEND register and an initial plan will be put in place to help to meet the child’s needs.
  • A child has identified SEND on entry at Clifton Green Primary School:
We want the very best for every child and will work with the people who already know about your child’s needs and use this information to make the best transition to school so that your child will flourish.

Assess, Plan, Do, Review:

Support will be planned and reviewed using the Assess–Plan–Do–Review cycle, ensuring provision responds to each child’s needs.

In some cases, a child may require an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). At this point we would consult a range of extrenal agencies and specialist support.

External Agencies and Specialist Support

When appropriate, we work with a range of professionals including Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, school nurses, wellbeing services and specialist teachers.
